Copy-editing a collection of essays as they appear for the very first time in English is certainly not an easy feat, but it is rewarding. A great deal of my time was spent behind the scenes–editing grammar, punctuation, etc. Sentences that were not written in semantic English were becoming powerful, effective arguments before my eyes. The essays were in Google Docs, and I would read through several times, making sure to not miss any important edits.

Attaching Citations

While the structure of sentences is different in Portuguese, so to is the citation rules. Many  quotes lacked source information. Therefore, before attaching citations, I researched the quote and tracked down the source information. This type of research required me to think critically and effectively. I do, however, have experience formulating a Works Cited in MLA, as that tends to be the academic convention. However, I’ve never formulated a Works Cited mainly consisting of works from Portugal.
